Meat and Binders

  • 1.5 lb Ground beef Use 80/20 fat ratio for moisture.
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork Optional for added flavor.
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Seasoned breadcrumbs recommended.
  • 2 large Eggs Acts as a binding agent.

Flavor Enhancers

  • 1 oz French onion soup mix For added flavor.
  • 2 cups Grated cheese Use cheddar, Gruyère, or mozzarella.

Onions

  • 2 large Onions Caramelized for sweetness and depth.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Caramelize the onions by heating oil in a pan over medium-low heat and cooking them for 15-20 minutes until golden.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, French onion soup mix, and caramelized onions.
  • Add the eggs and mix until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in a 9x5 loaf pan.

Cooking

  • Bake the meatloaf for 45-60 minutes, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Notes

Serve with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, or a light salad for a complete meal. For best results, let the meatloaf rest before slicing to maintain moisture.
