  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds warm, spicy flavor
  • 1/2 cup water or apple juice Helps cook the apples evenly
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice Prevents browning and brightens flavor
  • 2-3 tablespoons optional sweetener Honey, maple syrup, or sugar to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash, peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.

Cooking

  • In a medium-sized pot, combine the chopped apples, water (or apple juice), cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Cover and cook over medium heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples are soft and tender.

Mashing or Blending

  • For a chunky texture, mash the apples directly in the pot with a potato masher.
  • For a smoother consistency, transfer the cooked apples to a blender or food processor and puree until smooth.

Adjusting Sweetness

  • Taste the applesauce and stir in sweetener as needed, starting with 1 tablespoon at a time.

Cooling and Storing

  • Allow the applesauce to cool completely before transferring it to airtight containers. Store in the refrigerator for up to 7 days or freeze for longer storage.

Notes

For added flavor, consider incorporating a pinch of nutmeg or ginger. You can also blend part of the batch for a unique texture.
