  • 1/2 cup Tomato Sauce or Ketchup Provides a rich, tangy base.
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar Adds sweetness and caramelized depth.
  • 2 tablespoons Molasses Classic ingredient for a smoky richness.
  • 1 medium Onion (diced) Savory aromatic base.
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced) Enhances the savory flavor.

  • 1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar Adds acidity to brighten the flavors.
  • 4 strips Bacon (optional, chopped) Adds smoky, savory notes.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce Provides umami depth.

Instructions

Preparation

  • If using dried navy beans, soak them overnight and cook until tender. Canned beans can be rinsed and drained.
  • In a large skillet, cook diced bacon (if using) until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings in the pan.
  • Add diced onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened.

Cooking

  • In a large bowl, combine tomato sauce, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Stir to blend.
  • Add the beans, cooked bacon, and sauce mixture to a baking dish. Stir well to coat the beans evenly.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to allow the top to caramelize.

Notes

For a quick and flavorful twist, pair these baked beans with a hearty protein like grilled chicken. You can also elevate canned baked beans by adding sautéed onions, garlic, bacon, and spices.
